Why Preventative Maintenance?
Any way you look at it, Preventative Maintenance is a smart investment. Manufacturers, contractors, independent publications and homeowners all agree…if you’re looking to save money on utility bills while extending the life and efficient performance of your Home Comfort System, then Preventative Maintenance is your answer!
On the road to Comfort
Your air conditioning system is like your car – both are mechanical systems that require consistent and regular maintenance. You change the oil in your car every 3,000 miles because it helps keep your car running safely and reliably. Much like your car, your air conditioning system must be cared for throughout its life in order for it to continue keeping you comfortable inside your home efficiently and effectively. If you were to get in your car and drive it for 2,500 hours at 55 miles per hour, you would put 137,500 miles on your odometer and changed the oil 45 times. Well, the average family “drives” their home comfort system an average of 2,500 hours per year…at full speed! With all that stress put on your comfort system, you can see why it’s a good idea to have your air conditioner tune up at least once a year.
Measured Savings
Modern air conditioners are surprisingly forgiving mechanical systems. You're more likely to notice a problem in your car than in your air conditioner. By the time you notice the problem, it's often too late and the repair is too expensive. Of course, the gradual degradation of your air conditioner will show up if you know where to look.
It shows up in higher utility bills. It shows up in reduced cooling capacity. It shows up when your air conditioner unexpectedly breaks down long before it should.
Air conditioning tune-ups save money. Any mechanical system requires routine maintenance to continue operating effectively and efficiently. Tune-up your car and it will get better gas mileage. Tune up your air conditioner and you will save on utilities.
Few dispute that air conditioning tune-ups save you money.
The question then becomes, "How much?” A recent empirical study performed by Louisiana State University, underwritten by a grant from a utility company, sought to answer that very question. The study found that a comprehensive air conditioning tune-up saved the average home $32.76 per month during cooling season!

Thoughts on the Value Of Preventative Maintenance
“Maintain your equipment to prevent future problems and unwanted costs. Keep your cooling and heating systems at peak performance by having a contractor do annual pre-season check-ups. Contractors get busy once summer and winter come, so it’s best to check the cooling system in the spring and the heating system in the fall.”
- From the EPA Publication “A Guide to Energy-Efficient Cooling and Heating”
From Homestore.com
”If you've found a professional you're comfortable with, you might consider getting a service agreement with the company. For one annual payment, these agreements generally offer 24-hour maintenance service as well as regular cleaning and servicing of your system. Depending on the type of agreement you buy, the cost of parts and labor may also be covered.
The long-run benefits are tenfold. A well-maintained system, especially as part of a service agreement with a respected company, can impress potential buyers of your home. And low monthly energy bills are always attractive.”
From Consumer Reports, June 1998
“Consider purchasing a service plan, particularly if it combines cooling and heating functions. A plan may allow the contractor to spot problems before they lead to a breakdown. You may also get discounts on repairs and receive priority service – which could be a blessing should your cooling system break down during a heat wave.”

STAR Agreement
Customer Testimonials
“Last Saturday afternoon one of my A/C units failed. I called your service number and (the technician) called me and told me he would get to me as soon as he could be he had several outages ahead of me because of the storm. (I don't know how my A/C units know to fail over the weekend, but they are fairly consistent about this.)
After working all day, he called after nine, apologized for being so late, and asked if he could still come over. He worked until after 11 PM and got our A/C back on and it only cost a bit over $100. This was worth the entire price of the STAR contract. I could tell you horror stories of what has happened to me in the past under these circumstances but I'm sure that you have heard it all. What a great company you have! Thank you again for introducing me to Tempo and the great team of people there!”
John F., Dallas

Customer Testimonial
“My air-conditioning required service as the compressor "quit" this weekend. This morning one of your technicians came out and diagnosed the problem. This afternoon, the problem was repaired with a new compressor. Last year I bought a (Silver STAR) service contract and to be honest, some of my friends were skeptical that my problem would be solved today. I paid $35.00 for the repair, and also received both excellent and friendly service from your staff. I would recommend Tempo to anyone.”
